So, we went to the Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC, Birmingham in October 2019, and walked for hours and sat in dozens of different motorhomes. Some, we liked (Adria, Hymer, Bürstner) – others we hated (Chausson, Laika); it wasn’t always obvious why we had this almost emotional reaction to the different brands and models. We listened to others speaking the mysterious secret language of the experienced motorhomer. By the time we left we had a much better idea of the motorhome features we liked.
The next weekend we had a chance encounter with old friend in the local Tesco supermarket. We noticed she was carrying a motorhome branded shopping bag, and on her recommendation we visited Emm-Bee Motorhomes later the same day.
Gillian’s list of requirements: four berth, drop-down bed, separate shower and toilet, full length wardrobe, large oven, no leather seats. Adrian’s list: less than 7m long.
We went to look at a Bürstner, but the van with the champagne paintwork just wasn’t our taste. The charcoal and white model was much better, but had a tiny oven which we didn’t like. We were just about to leave – when they remembered that somewhere, squeezed between dozens of other vans, was an all silver model with a bigger oven. It had everything on the list – except the seats were leather.
And that is how we met Herdy our motorhome. Love at first sight.
