We have no idea if The Quiet Site is more peaceful than normal. It’s set in an amazing location high above Ullswater in the Lake District. But this weekend all we could hear was the howling gale and hammering rain of Storm Ciara.

Turned the van to face direct into the wind and left the blinds open a fraction to stop them rattling in the wind. Actually managed to get some sleep.

The journey home started by following the stream down the road, and then a slow crawl through Ullswater as it spilled over the bank near Pooley Bridge. After that it was a slow ride back on a gusty M6 over Shap.

So now we know how to handle motorhoming in a gale.
