After six months of lockdown we finally got the green light to go away as we have fully self contained facilities in Herdy. We had a trip to the Cotswolds that was postponed from New Year in the diary. We stayed at the Cotswold Hills Country Park – a nice small site in a good location near Chipping Norton, but on reflection it’s not really set up for motorhome, having no drive over grey waste disposal points which resulted in a few trips with a bucket!!!
We met up with Geoff, Jane & Jake (the dog) and set up the vans facing each other so we could sit outside and still be socially distanced.

Once we’d had a quick lunch we were off from the site on our first trek to Rollright where we went to check out the stone circle and the Wispering Knights (an ancient burial chamber). The two features certainly were impressive and the walk through rolling countryside was lovely, given the glorious weather
The site of the Stone circle, the Wispering Knights and the witch!!

Day 2 dawned with wall to wall sunshine ☀️

We had planned a trip to Broadway and Broadway Tower in a circular walk along a section of the Cotswold Way. We started the walk at Dover’s Hill and the tower was impressive and could be seen from a way out. It was currently closed for renovation and the gardens and cafe were really busy so we headed further away for our lunch stop

Broadway was also really busy so went straight through stopping only for a delicious ice cream!! The route continued through open countryside and through woods offering a varied and pretty route
Once back at the vans we ate and watched both a stunning sunset and beautiful rising moon
Day three and more sunshine for our next outing. Three Gloucestershire villages chosen for today – Snowshill, Stanway & Stanton. All very tiny quintessential English villages and very pretty countryside
On our final day we were off to trek along the Darcy Dalton way taking in Cornwell and Churchill
The walk offered a variety of landscape – forest, country lanes, wooded glades and villages. We also discovered the Langston memorial fountain in the centre of Churchill-a great place for a drink and snack!

A great first trip away and can’t wait to get away again!!
