Back in the Lakes again

We had a 4 day long weekend staying at Castlerigg Hall site – a beautiful site with stunning views across Derwentwater towards the Cat Bells ridge

We set up Herdy on Pitch 60 with a slim view over Bassenthwaite. Once sorted we headed out towards Latrigg planning to head straight up to the summit and coming back via Brundholme woods and along the newly repaired and updated Keswick to Threlkeld railway path

Friday was scheduled to be a decent weather day so we planned to complete Walla Crag, Bleaberry Fell & High Seat. Walla Crag is fast becoming one of our favourite peaks and the route up from Castlerigg is a fantastic one with views opening up across Derwentwater

From the summit of High Seat we headed down Ashness Fell towards Ashness Bridge. We stopped for a lunch break by Barrow Beck which was really relaxing. Once at the foot of the Fell we made our way back up to the site through Great Wood

Saturday was another great weather day and we’d planned a circular route up Blencathra. It would be about 22km as we were hiking from the site along the railway path to the visitor centre and then up the front of Blease Fell. The views opened up but there are several false summits on this route

The revealing of the summit in stages …….

We had a quick snack break at the summit before heading down. We had decided to take the route down Halls Fell ridge which was a bit of a tricky descent and needed poles for Adrian and hands for me!! We came down really fast passing all other hikers on their way down. We stopped for lunch towards the bottom of Halls Fell stopping off at the Horse& Farrier before heading off towards Castlerigg Stone circle and back to the site

We finished the day with a glorious sunset 🌅

Sunday was moody & misty so we visited the Castlerigg gallery where they had some fabulous photos framed and for sale before heading into Keswick for a mooch about. We walked in via the railway path and planned a cycle route for our next visit in September
