Watching the weather forecast at six o’clock last night, made a snap decision to go for a short break in North Wales.

Sounds simple, but all the walking and cycling gear is kept in the loft (in crates) and Herdy is in storage behind fingerprint scanners and padlocks.
Most of the packing done. Ready to leave with a car stuffed full by 10 am – how much stuff do we actually need for three days?! Left the storage site before 12, and arrived at a beautiful small site in Llanrwst by 2pm.

Swallow Falls
Wonderful walk through the Gwydyr Forest to Betws-y-coed and then back to Llanrwst via the Swallow Falls. Paths almost empty and met a very confident robin at the bench overlooking the falls. Even managed to get back before the rain started. 22km and 650m.

Followed the Snowdonia Slate Trail along the River Llugwy.

Pen yr Ole Wen
A return trip to Pen yr Ole Wen. On our last visit we got part way up, lost the best route due to snow, ended up at a rock chimney with numb fingers and wet gloves. Where we turned back.

This time we made it to the top. The direct route from Ogwen is a challenge. Straight up and with long stretches of scree and some scrambling. But the views of Tryfan and the Glyders are amazing. We even had an RAF fly past when half way up.

The summit was coated in a thick layer of ice and we revised our plan skipped Carnedd Dafydd and came back down the easier route. Which is less steep, easier to find, but slippery and still some scrambling.

Great Orme
Packed up and left the Bron Derw site, https://www.bronderw-wales.co.uk/caravan-club-cl-site/ and headed to Llandudno. Parked on the sea front and then followed the tram lines to the top of the Great Orme.
