Wyatts Covert Caravan and Motorhome Club Site, Tilehouse Lane, Denham, UB9 5DH, UK

Facilities
As a small (50 pitch) CAMC site the facilities are typical of the Caravan and Motorhome Club. If you’ve stayed on other clubs sites then this will all be familiar. Just one shower block which was clean and warm.
We judge sites from a motorhome point of view and the only inconvenience here was the grey water waste which was into a manhole cover. Dumping waste in this type of drain means fairly accurate positioning of the van over the drain – we had to turn around and ignore the one-way system to do this on our European model van.

We stayed for a couple of nights during a very cold spell and most of the water taps had frozen (this must be a problem on all campsites open in winter). There was one working tap by the reception and shower block, and our hose was long enough to fill up with fresh water from this.
On CAMC sites you choose your own pitch and then let reception know where you’ve parked. We discovered after we had parked up, that the pitch we had chosen was already occupied, but with no marker left behind. The site staff were very good about this and said we could stay put. This is not a criticism of the site but shows how important it is to let others know a pitch is being used.
The site is close to Denham Airfield, busy with light aircraft and helicopters. During the day there was some aircraft noise, but nothing after dark.
Why stay here?
The reason we stayed was to meet up with family in London. We left our van (Herdy) at the site the whole time and all our trips out were on foot or by taxi and public transport. Local taxis and Uber were less than £15 (January 2023) from the site to Ruislip or to Uxbridge. Uxbridge is a terminal station for the London Underground Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines and we took the tube to almost the other end of the line (Barbican) which took about an hour, but was easy and cost £7 each.
We did walk from the site through the Colne Valley, a big wetland area nearby which was also a construction site for the HS2 railway line. The road north of the campsite was shut due to these works.
